  • Good skincare is paramount for professional quality makeup application. Preparing the skin creates a lush base for optimal results on your wedding day.

  • INDIRA offers makeup application only for bridal clients but highly recommends fellow Whitby based hairdressers, Louise Rebeckah Wilson of Indie Hair & Beauty for bridal hairstyling. You can contact Louise via Instagram by direct messaging her account @indiehairandbeauty_ for enquiries.

  • All makeup brushes are vegan and cruelty free, from Illamasqua, The Sustainable Marketplace and Real Techniques.

  • I prefer not to stay to do a lipstick top up. When the bride is dressed in her beautiful gown, it is a good idea to keep away with lipstick in hand.

Staying to the end means I am unnecessarily in the way, especially as the photographer is collecting crucial portrait pictures of the bride with beloved family members.

I recommend you purchase your chosen lipstick as I offer a 15% off your lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury. A shopping link and Lipstick shade will be sent to you after your trial.

A beautiful little keepsake from your special day.

  • To ensure brides have the time and space to experiment and try on looks in advance of their wedding day, INDIRA incorporates a consultation and trial into the working process. The aim of the trial is to discover your bridal makeup essence, something that β€˜fits like a glove.’ You won’t leave the trial until you’re totally happy with your look.

In Ancient Greek mythology, the preparation of a bride for her wedding was rich with rituals symbolising purity, protection, and transition. Brides would bathe in water from sacred springs, often from the river Callirrhoe, to cleanse themselves and invoke blessings from the gods. They adorned themselves with elaborate, handmade veils to shield against evil spirits and wore wreaths of laurel or myrtle, plants sacred to the gods, particularly Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The use of flowers and aromatic scents played a crucial role; the bride was often surrounded by garlands of fresh flowers, symbolising fertility and beauty, and anointed with fragrant oils and perfumes, believed to attract divine favour and enhance her allure. The bride’s journey from her parental home to her new life was marked by these traditions, emphasising the divine favour and protection necessary for a prosperous and harmonious marriage.
